VOYAGER LECTURE SERIES: St. George…It Has Its Faults.

January 14 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Voyager Lecture Series

St. George…It Has Its Faults.

With Geologist Rick Miller
January 14 7:30pm

For the past 180+ million years the Southern Utah region has undergone significant geologic activity because of Plate Tectonics. This activity has generated a variety of potential and actual geologic hazards, many of which have impacted our city and surrounding local areas. These hazards include floods, various types of mass movements such as rock falls and landslides, earthquakes along numerous faults and geologically recent volcanic eruptions and lava flows.

This Voyager Lecture will be given by Rick Miller, a semi-retired professor of geological sciences (San Diego State University) with primary interests in microscopic fossils and the history of our planet Earth. He moved to St. George in 2001 because of the beauty and geological setting. He has maintained a strong interest in teaching (and was at DSU as an adjunct in 2010-2015) and volunteer lecturing on topics within the geological sciences for the Institute for Continued Learning (2004-present) and the Community Education Program (starting this spring).
