St. George Dance Company in Concert

“Presented by St. George Dance Company, Synergy is an evening of dance immersed in creativity, community and collaboration. One of the things I love most about dance is the opportunity to work with other artists in an environment where personal boundaries are necessarily let down. As you can imagine, working in close proximity, and sometimes finding yourself in somewhat precarious or even humorous positions with one another, has a way of breaking down barriers. But even more than that, embarking on the creative process together requires some level of vulnerability, and that human experience creates a connection that is hard to find in our fast-paced digital world.

As the title Synergy suggests, we know that the whole we create together is greater than the sum of our parts, and we feel privileged as dancers to be creators. By involving the dancers in the creation of the work (as opposed to a more traditional process where the choreographer sets every movement of each dancer), we are able to create innovative and intriguing work that is unique to this group of dancers. In other words, if two heads are better than one, we want to use six or seven! And in Synergy, we will go one step further in bringing this collaborative experience to our audience by using audience input to create one piece right there live on stage. Don’t worry–we won’t ask the audience to join in the dance, but of course we won’t turn away volunteers!” -Jennie Wood Jones, Director, Synergy Synergy will be created and performed by a small group of St. George’s strongest contemporary dancers. With pieces set to music that spans the musical stylings from George Gershwin to Duke Ellington, the work presented will display both the beautiful lines and athleticism of strong dance technique as well as the emotional depth of true artists.

“St. George Dance Company is committed to continuing an era of success. With renewed focus and dedicated staff, the Company will continue to grow. We encourage you to attend performances, to participate in community classes, and contribute the growth of the company. As Amelia Atwater-Rhodes once said, “In a society that worships love, freedom, and beauty, dance is sacred. It is a prayer for the future, a remembrance of the past and a joyful exclamation of thanks for the present.”

The concert will begin at 7:30pm on November 2nd. Tickets are $25, and $10 for students with current ID.
