Pianist Leanne Rees Performs “Spanish Sounds” At the First Anniversary Celebration of The Center for the Arts at Kayenta,

The Center for the Arts at Kayenta (CFAK) is honored to have Leanne Rees perform Spanish-themed music for their one-year-anniversary celebration in October. Rees is a classically trained pianist, composer and performer who has traveled the globe bringing women composers and new works to wider audiences. A full reception follows her performance. Cost is $40 ($35 if purchased by 10/15) and includes refreshments. Information and tickets are available through kayentaarts.com.

A trailblazer in the development of works by women composers, Rees researched, commissioned and performed works of women throughout the US and Europe. Among the more noteworthy of her countless performances are Rees’ performance with the National Symphony for the opening of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in DC; in the Dumbarton Concert Series; at the Embassies of Germany and India; the San Francisco War Memorial & Performing Arts Center; Kennedy Center; and to an enthusiastic full house at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Rees is also a prolific composer, having composed music for the theatrical production of Shirley Jackson’s “Haunting of Hill House,” as well as a two-piano arrangement of Love Songs by Cole Porter and Jerome Kern. Her piano composition, Funky Tango, was presented in concert by The Capital Composers Alliance in DC. Leanne’s recordings include Music by American Women Composers by Bravura Recordings and Women Composers and the Men in Their Lives, which made it to the final ballot for a Grammy Award.

Ms. Rees happens to be the daughter of Lorraine Boccardo, the influential woman for whom the CFAK black box theatre was named.

Knowing that the presence of art in our lives is essential, we are re-opening our doors in a healthy, safe way. The state may be at the Yellow Phase but we are maintaining the more strict Orange Phase Guidelines for Theaters.

Re-opening guidelines for all performances at the Center for the Arts at Kayenta:

  1. Social distance seating between all ticket groups (SEE SEAT MAP TO LEFT) Please purchase tickets in groups of two or more with family and friends if possible
  2. Temperature checks of all performers before each performance
  3. Mandatory mask wearing for all audience members and front of house staff
  4. Multiple hand sanitizing stations in the Center
  5. Disinfectant cleaning of theater seats, lobby and rest room surfaces after each performance
  6. Cash free transactions, we encourage online ticket purchases directly on our site.
