Second Act New Works Presents New Plays of 2018

This year’s lineup: “Clumsy Feet”, “The Journey”, “Cap and Trade”, “Swinger”, “Gilgamesh”, “Hysterical!”, and “So When Are You Leaving?”

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to immerse yourself in performance art! Hear amazing new plays read by local and professional actors, and afterwards interact with the actual playwright about your response to the work.

For five nights in a row, hear staged readings of exciting new works by playwrights from across the country.

Second Act New Works—who brings us this five-night event—is an organization devoted to the development and distribution of new plays. Its brainchild, Michael Harding, is Professor of Theater at Dixie State University, as well as a writer and longtime actor in multiple venues, most recently at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. His vision was to bring together artists of all sorts—as well as devotees to the art—to participate in the creation of tomorrow’s classics. The Center for the Arts at Kayenta is honored to give this annual event a home, and to give audiences a rare chance to participate in the making of performance art.

How it works.

Out of 80-plus submissions from across the country, seven were selected for this year’s staged readings. These playwrights, who hale from as far as New York to as near as St. George, will be in attendance.

The staged readings by professional actors give voice to the playwrights’ work. The audience’s response provides them valuable feedback, which they’ll ultimately use to refine and develop their work into a completed script for distribution into Regional Theatre productions. Second Act New Works then acts as literary agent to represen those plays.

We invite you to come and give audience to these compelling new works, and honor the playwright with your comments and discussion.
