This one-man play, performed by actor Clarence Gilyard, is based on the real-life experiences of Alonzo Fields, Chief Butler in the White House from 1931-1951.

Fields is forced by the Depression to give up his dreams of becoming an opera singer and accept the job at the White House where he served four U.S. presidents and their families.

This funny, poignant, insightful, and uplifting memoir is created from Fields’ private papers, diaries, and interviews.
