Voyager Lecture Series

Jurassic World – Could it Become a Reality?

Presented by Jerry Harris

7:30 pm – Lecture

6:30 pm – Optional Social Hour with Like-Minded Friends

In a remote island in 2015, a theme park exists where spectators watch dinosaurs — animals previously extinct for eons — run wild, free to roam the grounds, and eat up everything (except their human visitors) in sight. There are T-rexes, velociraptors, triceratops, and more, even including a hybrid dinosaur built by the park’s scientists to wow fans.

It all sounds like the stuff of fantasy, or more accurately, the plot of a famous film franchise, right? Actually, not quite — although not possible just yet, the crazy events of Jurassic World could happen — someday.
Join us as Jerry Harris walks us through if Jurassic World become a reality.

About Jerry Harris

Our March lecture is presented by Jerry Harris, Director of Paleontology at Utah Tech University. Learn about what the filmmakers of Jurassic Park got right about the past – and future – ofdinosaurs on earth.

Dr. Jerry Harris was born in Chicago, Illinois. Shortly thereafter, he became enamored with dinosaurs, and his continued fascination with them proves that he’s never quite grown up completely. With a few hiccups along the way, and by continually moving across the country, he has earned B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in the geosciences, focusing on vertebrate paleontology. He has worked at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science; he is currently the Director of Paleontology and a Professor of Geology at Utah Tech University and is the scientific advisor to the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm in St. George.
