This 5 day workshop is great for artists of ALL LEVELS. Anita will begin by observing the environment of an arts-oriented desert community set in the beautiful Red Rock area and its surrounding context of Southern Utah, a few miles outside of St. George.
Drawing by hand, reinforces and expresses the true experience of a place in time, again, using all five senses, instilling permanent habits of drawing, as well as creating indelible memories. We will use many tools in a ‘fact finding’ mission, discovering the ‘power of a place’ through drawing and painting. Sketches, paintings, drawings, + collages will be created of the landscape; creating ‘evocative’ works, furthering a concept of ‘place’; utilizing tools of watercolor, pastel, charcoal, and graphite.
A small group of 12 participants provides opportunities for plenty of one-on-one learning, lessons, critiques, and demos: Fields trips in the surrounding area for gathering evidence and experiencing the incredible landscape together with a home base studio classroom at Center for the Arts at Kayenta located in the heart of the Kayenta Arts Village.
“Surrounded by one of nature’s most spectacular landscapes, Kayenta is located in the southwest corner of Utah in the high desert of the western United States. Kayenta reaches in all directions and extends approximately 3 miles in length and 1.75 miles in width, for a total of 2,200 acres. Over 80% of Kayenta’s protected enclave borders open space.”
Workshop fee for 5 days: $500
